Rethinking the whole thing...

So my sister and I had a long conversation about my writing.  She made a good point:  I have been so lost in the story I want that I forgot about what my characters want.  So I put everything aside and started over....

I wrote a short story.  (4 pages.)  It is one event in the story.  It went well and the character changed some things midway through.  Today I wrote a paper from the character as if he was in the 6th grade.  Actually 2 papers like that.  The character is taking on his own life.   It's pretty amazing.

The story is changing because the character now has some personality that I didn't see before, not to mention something that is a bit of a game changer.  So we will see where this goes.

Notes:

Started playing Words With Friends.  Addictive.
Uhm...
Yeah, I guess that's it...   So note.

Pages and Words

So I have now moved 55 pages of both typed and written work together to a more complete and chronological order in my binder.  With that, I have added 1,517 words to a new document that will house the rewritten work.  Things are coming together.

Other than that, we have two new kittens...

More Progress.

Added another 6-7 pages of what I was working on yesterday.  So the writing is happening.  I realized that it is in rush format, so the story is condensed to a point where I have literally written most of 4-5 chapters into a short story.  The good point is that I can expand from here.  At least the general idea is down.

Finished "Bluebeard" last night.  Excellent book.  Started David Foster Wallace's "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again".  Interesting so far.

It dawned on me in my research that the Hiroshima bomb was dropped 70 years ago this past Thursday (August 6th) and the Nagasaki bomb was dropped 70 years ago this past Sunday (August 9th).  It is said that somewhere between 129,000 and 329,000 deaths came from these bombs.  (The numbers are to my best memory of the estimates.)  Although the bombs were dropped to end a war and prevent the invasion of Japan, a large number of the casualties were civilians.  As a combat veteran, my heart goes out to the people of Japan and the memories of those lost.  Regardless of whose side anyone was on, one is too many civilians to die in a war and World War II was plentiful when it came to civilian casualties.

So now that we are all reflective and sad...   Cheer up.  Today was Hump Day.

That is all for now.   More to follow.

Progress!

So I have been on a writing frenzy this morning.  10 pages in a binder of looseleaf paper.  The story is part of the Post-Apocalyptic quartet I'm working on.  I also rewrote the first two pages of the intro...  So progress indeed.

I am almost done with Vonnegut's Bluebeard and have started re-watching the X-Files from the beginning.

More to follow as I am sure there will be more writing today.

Where have I been?

So I've been moving.  Now in Arlington, WA.  Bought a house with property in the foothills of Mount Baker.  It's epic.

Haven't had time to write due to moving and packing and unpacking and etc.   should be done soon.
